BACTERIAL STRAINS COLLECTION

Coordinator: Dr. José Campos, National Centre for Microbiology – Research Group of Bacteriology
Includes representative strains of the main clones producing clinical infections and with the most prevalent phenotypes of resistance

EXPERIMENTAL ANIMAL MODEL OF INFECTION

The REIPI Network has a platform of experimental animal models of infections in which 6 research Groups participate, to carry out collaborative projects among the Groups and, also, with other groups outside the Network.
This platform is used to evaluate patogénesis, virulence, fitness, the cost of resistance, In specific resistant strains, and the new therapies for these infections. This platform, coordinated by Jerónimo Pachón, University Hospital Virgen del Rocío, has a long and extensive experience, with many experimental models, as follows:
Bacterial murine pneumonia due to A. baumannii, K. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa, E. coli (University Hospital Virgen del Rocío), A. baumannii (Bellvitge Hospital) and Aspergillus spp. (University Hospital Vall d´Hebron).
Chronic respiratory murine infection by P. aeruginosa (Son Espases Hospital).
Meningitis in New Zealand rabbits by A. baumannii and S. aureus (University Hospital Virgen del Rocío), pneumococci and S. aureus (Bellvitge Hospital).
Endocarditis due to MRSA (Hospital Clinic), enterococci (Vall d’Hebron Hospital), pneumococci (University Hospital Virgen del Rocío).
Foreing-body infection by P. aeruginosa and Staphylococcus epidermidis (University Hospital Virgen del Rocío) and MRSA (Bellvitge Hospital).
Peritonitis and disseminated infection: MRSA (Bellvitge Hospital), E. coli and A. baumannii (University Hospital Virgen del Rocío).
Aspergillosis in inmunodepressed rats (University Hospital Vall d’Hebron).
Disseminated murine candidiasis (University Hospital Virgen del Rocío).
Catheter infection by Candida spp. (University Hospital Vall d´Hebrón).
SPANISH PLATFORM FOR CLINICAL TRIALS (ESCREN)
This platform has unuts in the following hospitals: Reina Sofía/IMIBIC (Córdoba), Virgen del Rocío-IBiS / Virgen Macarena (Sevilla), Marqués de Valdecilla (Santander), Hospital Clinic (Barcelona), Bellvitge (Barcelona), Vall d’Hebron (Barcelona), Santa Creu i Sant Pau (Barcelona), Son Espases-IUNICS (Mallorca), Ramón y Cajal (Madrid), La Paz (Madrid) y 12 de Octubre (Madrid).

EXTERNAL PLATFORMS ON BIOINFORMATICS

REIPI promotes the collaboration with external platforms in Bioinformatics such as Instituto Nacional de Bioinformática, Plataforma de Bioinformática de Andalucía, and the platforms from Research Institutes or Centres.
